Balonmano Colores is a notforprofit sports association established in 2007 with the aim of creating a handball club open to all cultures, to be used as a tool for social integration in order to instil respect through the practice of this game. Colores prioritises its educational role over sporting results, and reivindicates sport as a successful method of coexistence in multicultural societies. The club provides a setting for kids to have fun, learn values, work together, feel accepted and improve their communication skills.
The photo essay follows the development of two clubs in Colores, both constituted entirely of kids of Gambian descent: their training sessions, their games, their relationships, their integration and the difficulties faced.
The project forms part of of a wider project on the role of sport as a tool for social integration in Aragón, and shows the societal reality of Zaragoza, whilst making aware the need for initiatives of a similar nature.
